What is a doula?

A doula is trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a birthing person and their partner and family during pregnancy, labor, and shortly after childbirth to help them have a safe, healthy, and empowered birth experience. Doulas help bridge the gaps in the medical support provided to you during pregnancy, labor and delivery, adding a consistent support member to your birth team.

HOW I WILL SUPPORT YOU

Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, and no matter your birth plan, I am here to support you so that you can learn the tools to create a positive birth experience.

During your pregnancy, I am here to provide answers or resources for your questions, be a sounding board for any of your fears or concerns, and help you get the information you need to feeling informed and prepared for birth. I will make sure you know what to expect during labor, birth, and the early postpartum period, as well as teach you techniques to reduce stress, help manage your pain during birth, and help make birth as efficient as possible. My goal is to lessen any fear or anxiety surrounding birth, so that you’re comfortable and feel empowered to make your birth your own.

I will join you in your labor to be a birth assistant and coach for you and your birth partner. I will help you both create a comforting environment; guide you through pain-relief, breathing, and relaxation techniques; coach you both through different laboring positions; facilitate important conversations between you and your provider; and be a constant voice of encouragement and reassurance through it all. Together, we can make your birth story an empowering one.
